- 1901 Census Free searchable index of census. Charge for images/transcripts. Note Many other commercial sites also offer access
- PCC Wills 1384- 1858 All PCC wills held by the National Archives(PROB11) are available on line. During this period all wills had to be proved in the Church courts, the Prerogative Court of Canterbury was the most important and dealt mainly with wealthy individuals but also included seamen and soldiers dying overseas
- Victorian Prisoners Photographs An incomplete photographic gallery of prisoners covering the period 1800-1890
- Death Duty Registers 1796 - 1903 in 1796 legacy duty was a tax payable on money left in wills of a personal estate. Close relatives such as wives & children did not have to pay. More distant relatives had to pay on a percentage depending upon the relationship. In 1805 real estate or the money received from real estate was added. Throughout the years the name of the tax changed and the duty extended. Full Description of the Duty
Federation of Family History Societies
The umbrella organisation for many family history societies. They maintain a list of member societies if your interests lie outside Buckinghamshire. The Federation also operates Family History On Line which contains over 66 million records. Bucks FHS contributes some records

Mormons- Church of the Latter Day Saints - Family Search
The Church has a free site with the IGI, 1881 Census, Vital records all searchable by name.
Free BMD
A group of volunteers is entering the data from the GRO indexes of all births, deaths & marriages from 1837 to the present day. The index is not complete but if you find your ancestor it could save you a trip to the library or London.
Ordering Certificates On-line
It now costs the same to order a certificate on line as it does to go to London and order them. For more information about certificates try the Registering Life Events site
Scotlands People
The Scottish record system is different. Scotland has one of the most complete on-line systems. You need to register and pay for viewing the certificates
Familia
The site is devoted to an index of resources held in the major libraries of the UK
Access to Archives
The A2A database contains catalogues describing archives held throughout England and dating from the 900s to the present day. It is searchable by name. The site does not yet cover the whole of England and will only tell you where the archives are held

You can see the results of an academic survey into the distribution of surnames in the UK.

The Genuki site has information about each county, including record offices, publications, parishes etc
