Royal Navy Seamen's records, non officer crew members who served between 1853 and 1923

Marines & Soldiers Serving in the Australian Colonies 1787 - 1870
Database of the Service of men posted to Australia. Their role was to protect the inhabitants by acting as a police force and to keep law and order

Medals

WW1 National Archives Medal Index
Some 5.5 million Medal Index Cards are on-line and freely searchable. Details of rank regiment, medals are free but a download of the document is chargeable (except at TNA)

WW2 Merchant Seamen's Medals.
Lists medals issued to merchant seamen during WW2. Medals had to be claimed and were not automatically issued. Each entry gives details of name, medals, ribbons and clasps issued together with discharge date and date & place of birth.
